In traditional surgery, the surgeon makes a large incision so that he can perform the operations are performed through small incisions, or keyholes. It was in 1902 that George Kelling from Dresden in Germany performed laparoscopic surgery using dogs.
In 1910, Hans Christian Jacobaeus from Sweden used the approac h to operate on a human. Since then, many advance have been made in this procedure. The introduction of the computer chip television camera was a key event in the development of laparoscopic. It allowed the doctor to do the surgey while viewing a projected image on screen.
Laparoscopic surgey has several advantages over traditional surgey, as it leaves only a tiny scar. Moreover, there is less loss of blood, less risk of imfection, and less pain after surgery. Best of all, the patient can go home in a day or two, and resume normal activities faster.
