What was the influence of Galen on medicine in ancient times?
Galen was a Greek who became the Roman Empire's greatest physician. He spent 12 years learning all the different doctrinies of ancient medicine from around the Mediterranean. He saw both inffrctive and effective techniques, and he applied his own skills to develope a range of effective treatments for different diseases.
Galen consolidated the work of previous Greek medical researchers, sdding the result of his own research, to create an incredibly long-ladting medical doctrine. He had great expertise in anatomy, pharmacology, and therapeutic methods. This brillant physician was the doctor to three emperors of the Ancient Roman Empire.
In fact, his ideas dominated the Western and Arab world for close to 1500 years. Galen is renowned for bringing philosophy into medicine, and we know more about him than other ancient scientists, because of the great number of book that he wrote.
